Judgment Begins With His Will

A young man was involved in every church activity — singing, praying, organizing. Everyone assumed he was deeply spiritual. But one day an elder, gently asked him,

“Brother, you do many things for God… but do you ever do what God actually asks?”

The question unsettled him. He was active, committed, and sincere — yet now he felt as if his spiritual authenticity was being challenged. The more he thought about it, the more he realised he had no real answer.

It is possible to stay busy for God and still miss God Himself.

We live in a world where spiritual activity is often mistaken for spiritual authenticity. If someone prays loudly, preaches well, or moves among miracles, we assume God is automatically pleased with them.

  1. Judgement and the Will of the Father

But Jesus gives a sobering warning in Matthew 7 — one we often overlook:

[Matthew 7:21 NIV] 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven

  • Each of the human being must go thru the judgement seat of father. The question that will be asked into us is

Did you do the will of the Father?

  1. Will of the Father

a) The Will of the Father Requires a Heaven-Mindset

  • Jesus Offered himself into the Cross as a fragrant offering is what we read in [Ephesians 5:2 NIV] 2 and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. He did this offering to do the will of the father .we read that in [John 6:38 NIV] 38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.

  • The will of father is more important than anything, Jesus himself practiced and taught us numerous times in the bible.

  • Lord’s prayer emphasises the will as the first one

  • [Matthew 6:9-10 NIV] 9 "This, then, is how you should pray: " 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

  • God has already written a unique plan for each of us in heaven. Our role on earth is to discover and walk in that plan. Unless we intentionally seek God’s mind and live with a “heaven-focused” heart, we cannot truly do the Father’s will.

  • Though we live on earth, we can still fulfil the Father’s heavenly purposes. This requires a deliberate mindset — to seek His will and to obey His will daily.

b) The Spirit Enables the Father’s Will

[Galatians 5:16-18 NIV] 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

  • We fulfil the Father’s will by walking in the Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who leads us into the life God has called us to live. [Romans 8:9 NIV] 9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.

  • A Spirit-led mind constantly seeks what God wants. - Its driven out of the Love for God (Romans 5:5) E.g.,  it can be to serve a poor, it can be to meditate the Word, it can be to pray, it can be to thank God. We will live in the world and still think things what God wants us to do. Many times, he will show bad things, evil thing’s, it’s to bring the heart of God to seek the burden to pray / burden to help. Abraham’s example of Sodom / Gomorrah is a good example - Genesis 18

  • Doing the Father’s will is not a one-time decision — it is a daily life. Its daily obedience. Its taking the cross daily and laying to his tabernacle and say, Father I surrender myself today, make me do your will. Every day will have its challenges, but he who called you will guide you. You will recognise this when the works of Spirit is in action.

  • Many Christians are deceived into thinking that merely attending church or joining prayer meetings means they are doing the will of God. These may be good activities, but they are only partial obedience — not the fullness of God’s will. Jesus warns against this superficial mindset.

  • On the Day of Judgment, some will confidently say  [Matthew 7:22 NIV] 22 Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?

  • But God’s response will be direct: [Matthew 7:23 NIV] 23 Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. As he has not been a faithful follower

  1. Obedience — The Foundation of Doing God’s Will

[Matthew 7:24 NIV] 24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.

[James 1:22-25 NIV] 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it--not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it--they will be blessed in what they do.

  • Obedience is the key to doing the Father’s will. Hearing God’s Word without obeying it still brings His judgment.

  • Saying “Lord, Lord” is not a substitute for obedience, nor are religious activities or rituals a replacement for a life submitted to God.

  • Even preaching, casting out demons, or performing miracles can be genuine spiritual acts — but they do not guarantee salvation. Judas himself likely participated in such works, yet he was not a true believer. In the last days, Satan will use “lying wonders” to deceive many (2 Thessalonians 2:7–12).

  • God calls us to hear His Word and do it (James 1:22–25). Studying or listening is only the first step; true hearing must lead to action.

  • If we only listen but do not obey, we deceive ourselves. The next step is always doing what God commands.

  • In Jesus’ parable, the foundation of a strong life is obedience to God’s Word — obedience that proves genuine faith (James 2:14).

  • True obedience produces deeds — the actions that fulfill the Father’s will in our lives.

How do you get this Obedience Spirit ?

[John 14:15 NIV] 15 "If you love me, keep my commands.

[John 14:23 NIV] 23 Jesus replied, "Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.

  • Judas is asking But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?

  • As Children of God, we are to obey him, if you look thru the passage of John 14 it talks on the works of Holy Spirit, we are a vessel, he is using us as a vessel to do his work while we are in the world.

  • Think of a Glass tumbler

    • You use one day to drink a soda

    • You use the same glass to drink water

    • You use the same to mix some med

    • The tumbler yields to all you want, does not say the soda makes me look dark and resist, does not say I look naked to rest water to be poured.

  • The same way, we are a vessel of God to do his works in earth this obedience is key - The Holy Spirit prompts us to obey by the word of God

  • The flow of obedience works like this: Holy Spirit → Reveals the Word of Truth → Shows God’s Will (and the new things He calls us to do) → We Obey → God’s work is accomplished through us →God’s glory is revealed through our surrender and the Spirit’s work.

  • We will look this flow in Detail of how God uses to get us the obeying spirit

1 Holy Spirit → Word of Truth

  • [John 14:26 NIV] 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

  • The Spirit illuminates Christ’s Word so it’s not just text but living truth.

2.   Word → Shows God’s Will

  • [John 16:13 NIV] 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

  • The Spirit doesn’t just inform; He convicts and directs.

  • This makes us realize new things to do for God — fresh obedience in daily life.

3.   Realization → Obedience

  • [James 1:22 NIV] 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

  • The Spirit’s voice always leads to action, not passive knowledge.

4.   Obedience → God’s Works Fulfilled

  • [Philippians 2:13 NIV] 13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

  • When we yield, it’s God’s works being carried out through us.

5.   Works → Reveals Glory of God

  • [John 15:8 NIV] 8 This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

  • [Matthew 5:16 NIV] 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

  • Obedience in love brings visible glory to God.

Love → Obedience → Indwelling Presence of Father & Son → Spirit works → Fruit → Glory.

  • This obedience spirit has side effects / benefits it flows thru

  • It endures struggles - sees struggles as a joy in the path

  • It corrects to lead in the right way as its guided by the truth

  • It keeps away from sin - as its guided by spirit of truth

  • If it sees a sin, it longs for father to wash the feet so that the body is pure

  • It strengthens/ emboldens to do more

  • It gives the zeal of Christ to do more and empties the self

  • Brings peace & rest to the Christ -

  • Produces the fruits of Spirit

  • Enables to spend more time with God in fellowship

  • Makes this person as a witness to God -

Closing Summary

Doing God’s will is not about noise, fame, or activity — it is about obedience.

It is the quiet, daily surrender that says, “Father, not my will, but Yours.”

The Father’s will begins in heaven, is revealed by the Holy Spirit through His Word, and is fulfilled on earth when we walk in loving obedience. This is the foundation Jesus called “the rock.” This is what will stand on the Day of Judgment.

May our lives not be filled with mere spiritual activity, but with genuine spiritual obedience.

May our works not just be done for God, but truly from God.

And when we stand before Him, may we hear the words every child of God longs for:

“Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Ask God sincerely in prayer: Father, I may be doing many things that appear spiritual, but is this truly what You desire? I surrender and yield myself completely. Lead me, Father, to walk in and fulfil Your will.”
